Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Blood Drive July 12 at 9 a.m. in the lower level of the building. Did you know that only three percent of eligible individuals donate blood? Preschool Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announced that Preschool registration for the 2014/2015 school year has started. The preschool program is fully funded through Title I. The program will run four half days each week with a parent component every other Friday. They are offering a morning or an afternoon session to families. Parents are required to attend every other Friday for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in the Oakland Beach, Hoxsie, Wickes and Norwood areas. Conimicut Village Memorial Bricks

The Conimicut Village Association is still accepting orders for memorial bricks. Bricks can be used to commemorate a life event or to honor a person, living or deceased. The engraved bricks are installed along the walkway at the scenic overlook at the ocean end of Beach Avenue. Summer Art Camp

Ages 6-12 will have unique ways to explore their creativity this summer at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. New art sessions include comic books, oil pastels, wearable art, and art & poetry in nine lines. Plus, favorite sessions like acrylic painting, ceramics, drawing and jewelry making will be offered again. Summer Night Concert Series

The Apponaug Area Improvement Association presents its 4th Annual Music for a Summer Night Concert Series on the front steps of Warwick City Hall 6:30-8 p.m. The schedule is as follows: June 12 Neal Vitullo & Dave Howard Blues; Thursday, June 26; Reggie Centracchio Night Life Orchestra Big Band Sound; July 10 Joe Esposito Timeless Classics; July 24 Saucy Jack Band Acoustic Rock; August 7 Bobby Justin Classic Rock ’n Roll; Aug. 21 Ten Rod Ramblers Blues & Rock. In case of rain, concerts will be held in the Friendship Hall of Warwick Central Baptist Church Hall across from City Hall.

RI Pink Heels

To benefit the RI Chapter of Pink Heals in your community, the RI Pink Heals Meeting House Committee has set the June dates for the center to be open available to survivors and women in treatment. Buttonwoods Crime Watch

Group Meeting

Attention all Buttonwoods residents. Please join the very first Buttonwoods Crime Watch community meeting, where you will have the opportunity to meet the Buttonwoods Crime Watch Group and the district Community Police Officer, Danny Maggiacomo. There will be snacks, a raffle for some great prizes, a special presentation by Officer Maggiacomo and a chance to mingle with your Buttonwoods neighbors. The meeting will be held at the Warwick Police Station in the Community Room on June 17 at 7 p.m. All Buttonwoods residents are invited to attend this event. Also, they have joined next door neighbor, a great online communication tool for reporting suspicious activity in the neighborhood. Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will install officers for the upcoming Toastmasters year at a dinner meeting June 17 at 6 p.m. at the Greenwood Inn on Jefferson Blvd. Officers to be installed are president, Erik Manchester, vice president/education, David Banigan, vice president of membership Merrill Winoker, vice president/public relations, Bethany Hashway and assistant Tyler Tuomisto, treasurer, Karen Golembeski, Sectary, Abaha Sharma, sergeant-at-arms, Bonnie Arpin, and web master Don Gendron. RI Children’s Chorus Auditions

The Rhode Island Children’s Chorus is holding auditions June 18 from 5-7 p.m. for new members for the upcoming fall season at Warwick Mall (center court).  Boys and girls ages 7-18 are invited to meet with director Dr. Christine Noel for a brief interview and vocal evaluation. No prior singing experience is necessary. You do not need an appointment. The audition is private and will take about 10 minutes. Give your child the gift of music education, new friends and fun. Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held June 19 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will get the final figures and comments for the Cause for Paws car show that was held on June 8. East Greenwich

Animal Protection League

The East Greenwich Animal Protection League will be at the Warwick Mall Community Booth for a Summer Bake Sale on June 21 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Baked goods, dog items, including dog bandanas, stuffed toys, etc. and for your cat catnip items, toys and many more great items will be for sale.  They will also have pictures of the cats and dogs that are available for adoption as well as information about the league. Dropoff of baked goods will be June 20 at 60 Middle Road, East Greenwich, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. or June 2 after 10 a.m. at the Warwick Mall Community Booth. EGAPL is a non-profit and all volunteer league. Steak Fry

St. Francis of Assisi Church’s annual steak fry will be held June 22 at 12 noon at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Sandy Lane, Warwick. Cost is $15 per person. Special hot dog meal is offered for children 12 and under. Many raffle prizes. Tickets may be purchased at all weekend Masses prior to June 22 or at St. Francis Rectory 596 Jefferson Blvd. Warwick telephone 737-5191. All are welcome.

Sampson Air Force Meeting

The monthly meeting of Sampson Air Force Base Veterans will be held June 24 at 1300 hours. All Air Force veterans, especially Sampson AFB vets, are welcome to the Sampson AFB Veterans Squadron. The squadron holds monthly luncheons on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Twin Oaks Restaurant, 100 Sabra St., Cranston. They will meet in ‘Billy’s Room.”

Trout Unlimited Meeting

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (#225) will host its regular monthly meeting June 25 starting at 6 p.m. at the Arcadia Management Area Check Station, Rt. 165, Exeter. This will be the chapter’s second Stream-Side Meetings at the Check Station. Hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages will be available. All members and guests welcomed. Warwick Municipal Retirees

Association

The Warwick Municipal Retirees Association meets the last Wednesday of each month at the Pilgrim Senior Center. Please note the time change for this meeting only: 11:30 a.m. Come to the meeting and get the scoop. Members and new members, plan on attending to support your organization. There are major issues arising and elections are right around the corner. Join us and discuss the issues over coffee and something scrumptious. Hope to see one and all on June 25. Books & More 3 Day Sale

The Friends of the West Warwick Public Library will be holding a Books & More Bash for three days in June. Used books, CDs, DVDs and other media will be on sale for bargain prices. The dates are June 20 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., June 21 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and June 23 from 1-8 p.m. All funds raised during the book sale will go towards supporting library programs and services. St. Benedict’s Church

100th Anniversary Gala

On Sept. 27 St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, will be having their 100th anniversary gala. It will begin with 4 p.m. Mass and be followed by a spectacular celebration in the newly refurbished and handicapped accessible Parish Center. The church is looking for former priests, deacons, principals, nuns, teachers, students, choir members and former and present parishioners. They would like your pictures and past history to make this a memorable and uplifting event not only for the parish but also the faith community. Craft Vendors Wanted

The Conimicut Village Association is seeking vendors for their annual craft fair to be held at Conimicut Point Park Aug. 16 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. The vendor fee is $25. Call 524-8404 for more information and/or an application form.

Cruise Nights

Every Tuesday until September, the Greater Warwick Lions will be holding Cruising with the Oldies at Oakland Beach in Warwick from 4 p.m. to dusk. Sweet antique cars, DJ Dom playing the oldies, food vendors, raffles and prizes all with an ocean view. All proceeds benefit the Lions’ charities, Ronald McDonald House, children with cancer, Insight, children and adults in the community in need of glasses, scholarships awarded to Warwick students and JONAH. Cruise Night is weather permitting; check the Warwick Lions Cruise Night website for cancellations.
