Auditions for Providence Singers

There will be auditions held for the Providence Singers, seeking tenors in particular, Aug. 5 by appointment only. To schedule, email chorus@providencesingers.org. The audition will be brief and encouraging and will consist of one song of your choice (a hymn is fine), guided vocalization to hear range and a bit of sight-reading. Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting Aug. 5 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. The organization has approximately 280,000 members in 116 countries. Ocean State Toastmasters is one of the oldest clubs in Rhode Island. Financial Education Workshops

Home Loan Investment Bank along with the Center for Women & Enterprise will be hosting a financial education workshop, Borrowing Basics, Aug. 5 at Home Loan Investment Bank, Warwick. The workshop will run from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Hoxsie branch. By the end of this course, participants will understand how to use a checking account responsibly. Pink Heals

Beginning Aug. 7, The Helen McPherson “Pink Heals” Meeting House, located at 53 Providence St., Suite 5, West Warwick, will be open on Thursday nights from 5-8 p.m. The “Meeting House” is a non-clinical social group for survivors and women currently battling cancer to get together and make new friends. They have a group of women that will be meeting to socialize, play games, arts/crafts, movie nights and much more. Summer Night Concert Series

The Apponaug Area Improvement Association presents its 4th Annual Music for a Summer Night Concert Series on the front steps of Warwick City Hall 6:30-8 p.m. The schedule is as follows: August 7 Bobby Justin Classic Rock ’n Roll; Aug. 21 Ten Rod Ramblers Blues & Rock. In case of rain, concerts will be held in the Friendship Hall of Warwick Central Baptist Church Hall across from City Hall.

Blood Drive

Islands Variety Show

Conimicut Craft Fair

The annual Conimicut Craft Fair will be held Aug. 16 from noon until 5 p.m. at Conimicut Point Park, 1 Point Avenue, Warwick.  Fair features live music, food and craft vendors and entertainment for children. The park also has beach access and a playground. Free admission to the park and the event.

Weekend of Celebration for Gortonites

Former students and friends of Gorton High School are invited to visit the school and stroll the corridors once again. The school will be opened Aug. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Later that day will be a Knights of Columbus gathering from 4-9 p.m. Bring snacks: chips, dip, pizza, sandwiches, fruit and desserts. $3 per person. Plan on renewing friendships and reminiscing. On Aug. 17 the Gorton Grand Reunion will be held at the Radisson Hotel on Post Road in Warwick. $30 per person with dinner featuring roast top round of beef, baked ham and grilled boneless breast of chicken, served family style. Hi-Lo-Jack League

A new Hi-Lo-Jack card league will be starting Aug. 18 at the Buttonwoods Center at 12:45 p.m. Please arrive by 12:30. The group will play seven games in a table of six. Pilgrim Orientation

The staff and students of Pilgrim High School invite the Class of 2018 and new students to orientation and an ice cream social Aug. 20 from 6:30-8 p.m. All incoming 9th graders will receive their schedule that evening and meet with student leaders as they tour the building and discuss what makes a Patriot successful. Parents are invited to auditorium for a short program before all meet back for the ice cream social.

Norwood Block Party

The Norwood Neighborhood Association’s Summer Block Party at the Gazebo on Pawtuxet Avenue will be held Aug. 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (rain date Aug. 21). Come hungry and enjoy grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and drinks, all reasonably priced. Musical entertainment by Wooden Nickel.  Bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets and enjoy a summer evening at the gazebo. All are welcome. Cruise Nights

Every Tuesday until September, the Greater Warwick Lions will be holding Cruising with the Oldies at Oakland Beach in Warwick from 4 p.m. to dusk. Sweet antique cars, DJ Dom playing the oldies, food vendors, raffles and prizes all with an ocean view. All proceeds benefit the Lions’ charities, Ronald McDonald House, children with cancer, Insight, children and adults in the community in need of glasses, scholarships awarded to Warwick students and JONAH. Crafters needed for the annual Heritage Day event at the Paine House Museum located at 7 Station St., Coventry, on September 27. The price per table is $25. St. Benedict’s Church

100th Anniversary Gala

On Sept. 27 St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, will be having their 100th anniversary gala. It will begin with 4 p.m. Mass and be followed by a spectacular celebration in the newly refurbished and handicapped accessible Parish Center. The church is looking for former priests, deacons, principals, nuns, teachers, students, choir members and former and present parishioners. Moms RI

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just on hour a week. Moms for Moms RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings, and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. This group provides a supportive meeting place for people with aphasia to socialize and share their communication challenges and strategies. There is no charge for participation. Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. The Fife & Drum Corps meets every Wednesday night at Wyman Elementary School from 6:30-8 p.m. The corps is open to anyone over the age of 12. Drum and fife instruction is available to beginners.
