Tri-City Elks

Country line dancing every Monday from 6-8:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per person. Come and join the fun. Proceeds to benefit Elks charities.

A Halloween party will be held on Friday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m., with music by Whiskey Rhode. BBQ ribs and chicken. Cost is $20 per person. Wear a crazy hat, dress up, or come as you are. Have some fun. Purchase your tickets in the lodge lounge before Oct. 14.

Conimicut Village Hunger Walk

We invite you and your organization to participate in the 2014 West Bay CROP Hunger Walk at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 in Conimicut Village. Hundreds of participants and teams from around the state will walk a 3-mile course through the village and down around the Point to raise money for and awareness of those who go hungry in the U.S. and around the world. Money raised will benefit both local and world organizations to end hunger. Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held Oct. 16 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be discussing the pasta supper, which will be on Nov. 1, and the wrap-up for the dog walk that took place on Oct. 4. Chopstick Auction

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Womens Auxiliary will have their annual chopstick auction Oct. 18. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., the auction begins at 1. A chopstick for $10 will get you in all the drawings. They can be purchased at the door. Hotdogs, pizza and pastry and coffee will be available to purchase along with a cash bar. Limited seating, first 100 people get seats. Adults only please.

Annual Turkey Supper

Church of Transfiguration Craft Fair & Holiday Bazaar

The Church of the Transfiguration will host its annual Craft Fair and Holiday Bazaar on Oct. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature New England crafters on site, a 50/50 raffle all day, with the drawing at 3 p.m. Purchase tickets for selected baskets; every basket will have a gift card. Tables will have jewelry, knit goods, local art, baked goods and lunch items for purchase. Bring can goods for the Edgewood-Pawtuxet Food Closet and receive a raffle ticket for selected baskets. There will be an expanded location for a Penny Social and Winter Thrift Sale of clothing and house wares. 5K Walk for Drug Awareness

On Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. the Rhode Island State Elks Association will be having the First Annual 5K Walk for the Drug Awareness Program at Warwick City Park on Buttonwoods Avenue. The Elks Drug Awareness Program wants to provide assistance for youth and their parents with information and educational materials. The Elks hope to prevent many drug related problems for our youth before they start.  The Elks have the largest Drug Awareness Program in this country. All volunteers of the Elks are passionate at what they do in trying to make a difference in our community.  The Elks want to help make their foundation in life solid and drug free and their transition to adulthood smooth.

Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting Oct. 21 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of some 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. St. Benedict’s Chopstick Auction

A Chopstick Auction will be Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. at the St. Benedict Parish Centre, 70 Transit St., Warwick (handicapped accessible). Pasta dinner at 5 p.m. followed by a chopstick auction. R.I. Open Juried Exhibit

Warwick artists showcased in the eagerly-anticipated 28th Annual RI Open Juried Exhibit, to be held Oct. 25, include calligrapher Sharon D. Pasta Dinner & Raffle

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will hold its 10th annual pasta dinner & raffle Nov. 1 from 5-7 p.m. at Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Ave., Warwick. The annual holiday fair, “Woodland Animals Fair”

Greenwood Community Church Anniversary

On Nov. 16 Greenwood Community Church Presbyterian will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding at the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Usually Greenwood has two worship services on Sundays, but on Nov. 16 there is just one service of worship. Any and all people are invited to this worship service; you need not be members, as all are welcome to attend this special anniversary celebration.

Open Life Drawing Studio

Announcing a new opportunity to study anatomical form and structure, foreshortening, and composition while drawing from live models. On the third Monday each month, Oct. 20, Nov. 17, Dec. 15, from 6 to 8:30 pm, the main gallery at the Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Rd., Warwick, becomes a studio for those who want to try drawing from a live model, and for experienced artists who want to stretch their skills. Sessions are for ages 18+ and artists bring their own materials; there is no formal instruction. Cost per session is $8. Reserve space by Friday and pay on Monday, with plenty of free parking. Moms RI

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just on hour a week. Moms for Moms RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings, and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. This group provides a supportive meeting place for people with aphasia to socialize and share their communication challenges and strategies. There is no charge for participation. Fife & Drum Corps

Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Evening Counseling Available

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety or overwhelming stress coupled with an addiction to or dependence on drugs or alcohol, then The Kent Center's new evening program may be right for you. Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. The Grange hall is located at 1175 West Shore Rd.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child's development and offers information about community resources.
