Skeleton Wanted

Warwick Museum of Art is looking for a human skeleton for its teen drawing classes. A full-sized, anatomically correct hanging skeleton can be loaned – it will be used during three Saturday classes of 2-3 hours each – or donated to WMOA for a tax deduction. Tri-City Elks

Life-Drawing & Anatomy for Teens

A new three-week session of Life Drawing & Anatomy classes for ages 13-17 starts soon at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. Students will gain a better understanding of the human figure by exploring skeletal structure, proportions, bodies in motion and drawing from a live clothed model. Classes are Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. on Nov. 11, 18 and 25 and cost is $80, which includes instructor, model and material fees. Electronic Waste Dropoff

Edgewood Congregational Church, 1788 Broad St., Cranston, is sponsoring an electronic waste dropoff event to raise funds for the church Nov. 8 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. All types of electronic items are accepted at no charge, including computers, printers, toner cartridges, stereo equipment, TVs, monitors, phones, wires, batteries (car and marine included) and small appliances such as microwaves, toasters, etc. A $10 disposal fee is charged for air conditioners, dehumidifiers and mini refrigerators. VOWS Chopstick Auction

Volunteers of Warwick Schools (VOWS) will hold its popular “chopstick” auction Nov. 8 at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road. The auction begins at 12 noon. Participants may arrive at 11:30 a.m. to take a look at what’s available. Auction items range in value from $10 to $150 and include restaurant and retail gift certificates, gift baskets and items for men, women and children. The purchase of a $20 Golden Numbered Chopstick enters participants in every drawing. You need not be present to win. Once you have purchased your Golden Numbered Chopstick, you may also purchase up to five “In Until You Win” chopsticks for $5 each at the door the day of the event. All You Can Eat Thanksgiving Supper

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having their All You Can Eat Thanksgiving Supper Nov. 8 from 4:30-7 p.m. Menu includes turkey, stuffing, gravy, potatoes, turnip, squash, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls & butter, coffee, tea, soda and homemade desserts. Cost for adults is $14, children 12 years and under is $5, children 5 and under are free. This dinner sells out quick, so come early.

Friends Bingo

Sarah Stone Student

Graphic Design Exhibit

Twenty original works created by high school student Sarah Stone for her senior graphic arts project are showcased in the lower level art gallery now through Nov. 15. Ms. Stone is a student at Pilgrim High School, and her atmospheric pieces have progressed from spherical, space-like scenes to full-scale landscapes. Gallery guests will be amazed to learn that her medium of choice is spray paint, and all works are available for purchase. Warwick Scrapbooking Rally Group

The Warwick Scrapbooking Rally Group for beginner and experienced scrappers meets the third Saturday of each month in the Idea Studio at the Warwick Public Library on Sandy Lane from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The next meeting is Nov. 15. Greenwood Community Church Anniversary

Ocean State Toastmasters to Meet

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting Nov. 18 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of some 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. The organization has approximately 280,000 members in 116 countries.

Moms RI

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just on hour a week. Moms for Moms RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings, and attending mom gatherings. Evening Counseling Available

Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Autumn Beer Tasting

The Varnum Continentals’ 5th Annual Autumn Beer Tasting will take place Nov. 22 from 7-9 p.m. at the Varnum Memorial Armory, 6 Main St., East Greenwich. Proceeds benefit efforts to preserve history, promote patriotism and provide education to young people and adults alike. This event will feature a wide range of artisan beers (from pilsners to porters) from American and international craft brewers as well as light appetizers. Also, there will be tours of the armory’s world-class collection of military memorabilia and armaments. Advance tickets purchased online are $20 per person. Tickets sold at the door on event night are $25 per person. Turkey Trot

Warwick Rotary and Warwick high schools are holding the Thanksgiving 5K Turkey Trot 2014 Nov. 27 at 8 a.m. at Warwick City Park ball fields. Support your high school, Warwick Rotary Charity Fund and Westbay Marketplace Food Pantry. Run or walk at your own pace with friends and family.
