Tri-City Elks

Toys for our neighborhood kids. Come join us Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. to enjoy a great food (buffet style) and two great bands, Whiskey Rhode and Stumbling Murphy, playing at the lodge. Entrance fee is a new unwrapped toy. Toys will be donated to children in our community through local churches and to some families that we will also be donating a food basket to for the holiday.

Warwick Vets Gear

Show your Vets spirit and support your Warwick Veterans Memorial High School Class of 2016 by purchasing your very own Vets gear: lanyard $3, travel cups with Hurricanes logo $5; Christmas ornaments with Hurricanes logo $7 (all pictured). Christmas Concert

Saints Rose and Clement Parish, Warwick, will be hosting a Christmas concert Dec. 12. This year, the Bishop Hendricken String Orchestra and the St. Rose of Lima Middle School Chorus will be joining the parish choir. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will fill your hearts with Christmas cheer. Tickets will be sold at the door (adults $3, children under 6 free).

Blood Drive

The Bloodmobile will be at Builders Surplus, 2457 Post Road, Warwick, Dec. 12 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Visit www.ribc.org to make an appointment. Bring your driver’s license or other form of identification when you donate.

Christmas in Song

St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane Warwick, will be presenting a concert entitled “Christmas in Song” Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at the church. The concert will feature the Choir of St. Kevin, the Bishop Hendricken Young Men’s Chorus, guest soloists and a visit from Santa himself. Please join them for a delightful evening of musical fun. The concert is free.

Caroling for Canned Goods

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will be “Caroling for Canned Goods” Dec. 12 around 6 p.m. They will be out in the neighborhood of the church (Moore Street and side streets) offering neighbors some Christmas carols in exchange for non-perishable food items for the food pantry. If you would like to join in the caroling come to the church at 5:30. Call 737-3127 for more information. All are welcome.

Gift Wrapping Fundraiser

Hate to gift wrap? Troop 186 of Girl Scouts of Southern New England is holding a gift wrapping fundraiser Dec. 13 at Warwick Central Baptist Church. The event will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the lower hall of the church. This event will raise money for a trip the girls will take in October 2015 to Pinegrove Dude Ranch. Bring your gifts and the girls will make them beautiful for you.

Warwick Figure Skaters Registration

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold mid-season open registration Dec. 13 from 1-3 at Thayer Arena and Dec. 14 from 1-3:00 at Warburton Arena, 925 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Their learn to skate group lesson programs taught by professional instructors will begin Jan. 3 for nine weeks. Club information is available on their web site, www.warwickfs.org.

Friends Bingo

The Friends of the Warwick Senior Centers, Inc. will have bingo Dec. 14 at the Pilgrim Senior Center. Doors open at 11 a.m.; bingo starts promptly at 12 noon. Bring a friend and have a great day. They are collecting toiletries for the homeless.

Pictures with Santa

Pictures with Santa will be held Sunday, Dec. 14 from 1-4 p.m. at Warwick Animal Hospital, 1950 Elmwood Ave., Warwick. Fee is $10 per picture. Sponsored by Defenders of Animals, Inc., all proceeds go toward emergency medical treatment for pets. Contact 461-1922.

Swinging Squares

Swinging Squares of RI square dance workshops will be held Monday nights, Dec. 15 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the East Smithfield Neighborhood Center, 7 Esmond Street, Smithfield. Fee is $6 per person. Caller is Bob Butler, cuer is Henry Barry. Contact Lynne at 508-852-7164 for additional information.

The Swinging Squares of RI Monthly Square Dance will be held Dec. 20 from 8-10:30 p.m. Cost is  $7 per person. Level is Mainstream and Plus, with a Gilligan’s Island Theme.

Warwick Scrapbooking Rally Group

The Warwick Scrapbooking Rally Group for beginner and experienced scrappers, meets the third Saturday of each month in the Idea Studio at the Warwick Public Library on Sandy Lane from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The next meeting is on Dec. 20. The meeting is free and open to all. They will also be holding the second holiday scrapbooking instructional class from 10-11 a.m. Come learn a new skill and have fun. Basic supplies will be provided. Participants need only to bring an assortment of pictures (6-12) for the project. Hoxsie Dry Cleaners Events

Hoxsie Dry Cleaners, 1080 Warwick Ave., is accepting coats of all sizes for donation through Dec. 20. They will clean them at no charge and then donate them to local charities. Also, they will be accepting donations for Toys For Tots through Dec. 15.

Open Life Drawing Studio

Announcing a new opportunity to study anatomical form and structure, foreshortening and composition while drawing from live models. On Dec. 15, from 6-8:30 p.m., the main gallery at the Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Rd., Warwick, becomes a studio for those who want to try drawing from a live model, and for experienced artists who want to stretch their skills. Sessions are for ages 18+ and artists bring their own materials; there is no formal instruction. Cost per session is $8. Reserve space by Friday and pay on Monday, with plenty of free parking. Spread the word because 10+ artists are needed per session. On the Street Photography Show

Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, presents “On the Street” Photography Show & Sale now to Dec. 20 and January 5-10. Just in time for holiday shopping, the annual photography show features Warwick artists Mark Cheney, David Fleurant, Janet Moscarello, Rachel Simone, and Louise St. Pierre. Most items are priced from $5 to $300 and a portion of each sale benefits WMOA and its mission of connecting all ages to the arts. Also on display are 24 replica Rhode Island State Tree Ornaments created by Warwick youth for the National Tree Lighting in Washington, D.C. The exhibit and reception are open to the public and donations will be gratefully accepted in the gallery. Chanukah Events

Chabad of West Bay will offer three Chanukah events: Dec. 16 at Cranston City Hall, 869 Park Ave. featuring Menorah lighting, arts & crafts, hot latkes and more; Dec. 17 at Pawtuxet Park at Narragansett Parkway and Post Road, with Menorah lighting, Chanukah songs, hot latkes and gelt; and Dec. 22 at Warwick Mall, with music by Sounds of Simcha, Chanukah arts & crafts, gift for each child, Chanukah supplies & gift shop, lighting of a giant sculptured ice Menorah and hot latkes and gelt. New England Steel Guitar

New England Steel Guitar will meet Dec. 28 at Post 15, Main St., East Greenwich, from 1-5 p.m. The band will be Snakebite.

Hi-Lo-Jack League

The Warwick Hi-Lo-Jack League is starting its new session Dec. 29 at Buttonwoods Senior Center on West Shore Road. This is a senior fun league. Two dollars is collected at the door plus 10-cent ups. Every cent goes back to the players, and they have a banquet at the end of the session. If you are interested in joining, call Ray Walsh at 497-8097.

Retirees Association

A wonderful time was had by all at the Christmas Luncheon. The room was filled to capacity with good friends, good food, laughter and joy. Their next meeting in December is cancelled, but they’ll see you Jan. 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Senior Center. Mayor Avedesian will be our guest speaker.
