The Frozen Clam
What is the Frozen Clam? It's the place to be to kick off National Mentoring Month and 2012. The Frozen Clam Plunge will be held Jan. 1 at 12 noon at Goddard State Park Beach. Come and cheer folks on, jump in the water, hang out on the beach, hold someone's towel, have a hot chocolate, or make a donation. This event is a fundraiser for the RI Mentoring Partnership to help them match more kids with mentors. If you would like to take the plunge e-mail Ryan at Laid Back Fitness.

Chanukah Events
Chanukah at Warwick Mall will be held Dec. 20 at Warwick Mall. At 5:30 p.m. Jewish music by Stan Freedman & Sounds of Simcha. Art and crafts: Design your own Chanukah pillowcase. Chanukah supplies: Sale and gift shop. Entertainment will be Lon Cerel Balloon Sculpting. At 6:15p.m. lighting of giant menorah. Greetings from dignitaries, donuts and Chanukah gelt.
Chanukah at Pawtuxet Park on Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. Narragansett . & Post Rd. Menorah lighting, Chanukah songs, hot latkes and gelt.
Chanukah at Cranston City Hall on Dec. 22 at 4:30 p.m. Menorah lighting, arts and crafts. Hot latkes and more.
These events are presented by Chabad of West Bay.

Free Community Breakfast
There will be a free community breakfast Dec. 31 from 8:30-10 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Rd. The free breakfast is held for friends and neighbors in need of a meal or companionship.

Warwick Figure Skaters Registration
The Warwick Figure Skaters is having a mid-season registration. Information is available on their web site, www.warwickfs.org. Their learn to skate programs are taught by professional instructors and will begin Jan. 7,for nine weeks.

Children's Memorial Breakfast
On Jan. 28, the Margaret Sterling Cook Foundation will host the 4th Annual Children's Memorial Breakfast at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Crossings, 801 Greenwich Ave. The special event is for bereaved parents, family and friends of deceased children who died at any age, for any reason. The keynote speaker will be Ann Hood, whose book, Comfort: A Journey Through Grief, was released in 2009 and copies will be available for purchase. As part of the event, a candle lighting ceremony will commemorate each child represented. The doors will open at 9 a.m. and breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $12 for adults, $7.50 for children ages 3-12, free for children under 3. Reservations and payment must be made in advance and received no later than Jan. 21. Seats are limited. Please send a check made payable to Margaret Sterling Cook Foundation, P.O. Cornerstone Church
Cornerstone Church, 1990 Elmwood Ave., Warwick, is now a member of the RI Community Food Bank. Hours of operation are the first and third Saturday from 9-11 a.m. and the second and fourth Monday from 6-8 p.m. For more information call 781-6121.

Do you have an hour a week to spare? That's all it takes to make a difference in the life of a child. Today's children need positive, caring adult role models to help them develop confidence, self-esteem and a desire to stay in school. Old Warwick Grange #41
The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values. Grange-where the whole family can go and grow. Help them to help others. The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. The Grange hall is located at 1175 West Shore Rd.

Developmental Screening
The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child's development and offers information about community resources. Free Sunday Lunch
St. Paul Lutheran Church, 389 Greenwich Ave., is offering a free lunch for anyone in need of a meal or companionship. All are welcome every Sunday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. For more information call 737-6758.

Rhode Island Pet Bird Club

Bingo
There will be Bingo at Sparrows Point III, 355 Hardig Rd., every Wednesday starting April 6. Doors open at 4 p.m., bingo starts promptly at 6 p.m.

Photographic Society of RI
The Photographic Society of Rhode Island welcomes camera enthusiasts of all abilities. Meetings are held on the second, third and fourth Tuesday of each month, September through May at Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave. For more information visit www.psri.us.

Bingo
There will be bingo every Friday at 6:45 p.m. at Meadowbrook Terrace on Warwick Ave. in the Community Hall.

Donate Shop
The Donate Shop is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit thrift store that provides free clothing to families in crisis. They are an all-volunteer organization that relies solely on the support of the community to continue this endeavor. The shop has a new location at 400 Warwick Ave., Unit #14, between Dunkin Donuts and Shaw's. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The phone number is 533-9944, the website is www.thedonateshop.org and “Like” them on Facebook for special updates.

Gambling Counseling Offered
Bridgemark now offers individual, group and family counseling for problem gambling. If you or a loved one is experiencing difficulties as a result of gambling, call for discreet and confidential assistance, 781-2700. Deaf services are also available; call their videophone number 1-866-730-9573.

Domestic Violence Volunteers
The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center (EBCC) is currently seeking volunteers for their Speakers Bureau. All volunteers will be trained to provide outreach, as a representative of EBCC, to communities in their service area through attendance at health and community fairs and by fulfilling requests for informational speaking engagements. Volunteers will receive thorough and specialized training under the supervision of the agency services coordinator before beginning this work. Fife and Drum Corps
The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Fife & Drum Corps
Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. The Fife & Drum Corps meets every Wednesday night at Wyman Elementary School from 6:30-8 p.m. The corps is open to anyone over the age of 12. Drum and fife instruction is available to beginners.
