By popular demand, Buddy Guy returning to Historic Park Theatre

When the Park Theatre was putting together its impressive lineup of shows to celebrate its 5th Anniversary, there was a resounding request from loyal patrons – bring back Buddy Guy!

On Saturday, Nov. 15, music lovers will get their wish when The Living Legend of Blues returns to deliver one of the trademark high-energy, soulful performances that’s made him a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and six-time Grammy winner. The show begins with teenage blues guitar prodigy Quinn Sullivan of New Bedford, Mass. as Guy’s opening act.

A pioneer of Chicago Blues, Guy has electrified audiences with his unmistakable guitar skills for nearly 50 years. Just last year, Guy released the first double album of his storied career, “Rhythm & Blues,” which weaves his classic sound and moving lyrics throughout 21 new tracks.

“You need about 14, 15 songs for an album, but we had passed 18 and everything we cut sounded good,” said Guy. “I got the word from the label that maybe it was a good idea to put two discs out, one of them the slow stuff, more for listening and the other, like B.B. King said, if you want to boogie-woogie all night long.”

While he may have turned 78 this year, Guy shows no signs of slowing down, consistently playing a full slate of shows each year for fans who come out in droves to hear the living link to Chicago’s halcyon days of electric blues. During his career, Guy has influenced some of the most notable musicians of his generation, including Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. And, in December 2012, he received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors recognizing his lifetime of contributions to American culture and the performing arts.

What began with a toy guitar when Quinn Sullivan was just 3 years old has become a young man gaining quite the reputation among today’s most respected guitar players and musical artists. By the time he was 6, Sullivan gained national attention after appearing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and wowing the audience with his rendition of “Twist and Shout.” In 2007 he met his idol, Buddy Guy, and was invited on stage. Shortly after, Guy began to mentor Sullivan, inviting him to join his East Coast Tour as the opening act and asking him to perform on his Grammy-nominated album, “Skin Deep.”

In the years that have passed, Quinn has been sharing stages with legendary players like Eric Clapton, B.B. King and, of course, Buddy Guy, at iconic venues like the Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks. Currently, Quinn is back touring with Guy, promoting his latest album, “Getting There,” produced in Nashville with multi-Grammy winner Tom Hambridge.

Buddy Guy and Quinn Sullivan will take the stage of the Park Theatre at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. Tickets are $45 and $55 and are available by calling the Box Office at 467-7275 or online at www.ParkTheatreRI.com. The Park Theatre is located at 848 Park Avenue, Cranston. Free parking is available for all shows.
