C. Leona (McCarthy) Brown, R.N., age 80, of Cranston, died at home on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. For 59 years she was the wife of Captain Richard F. Brown, CFD, Ret.

Leona was born in Providence, a daughter of the late Leonard A. and Catherine A. (Burke) McCarthy. She was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy and Rhode Island School of Nursing, and was a member of their alumnae associations. Leona was employed as a registered nurse for her entire working career, which spanned 40 years at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She retired as a Night-time Nursing Supervisor in 1999.

Besides her husband, she is survived by five children, Susan M. Bowles and her husband, Al of Melbourne, Florida, Steven M. Brown and his wife, Joyce of Warwick, Joanie M. Black and her husband, David of Cranston, Kevin L. Brown and his wife, Kathy of Coventry, and Leann C. Muzerall and her husband, Chris of Jackson, New Hampshire; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Her funeral was held on Monday, September 15, at 9:15 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mark Church, 15 Garden Court, Cranston. Burial was in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
