CCRI offering info session for adults looking to go to college

The Community College of Rhode Island will hold a grand information session geared toward potential adult students from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Knight Campus, 400 East Ave., Warwick. If classes are canceled because of inclement weather that day, the event will be held at the same time on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

This is the first time the information session, which is geared toward adult learners who wish to attend CCRI but don’t know where to start, will be held in Warwick. Advisers will be on hand to help prospective students with questions about their educational plan and career path; financial aid staff will help them determine how to pay for college; faculty members will discuss the more than 80 programs offered; and students and alumni will share their CCRI experiences. The college will waive its $20 application fee for those who apply that night.

“Whether it’s to pursue a new profession, career advancement opportunities or personal enrichment, many people enroll in college later in life,” said Walter Crocker, chairman of the CCRI President’s Committee on the Adult Learner. “Often, students who have not been in the classroom for a number of years are nervous about returning to an academic setting. The Grand Information Session offers adults a welcoming environment and personalized services to enable them to establish an education plan, learn about financial aid and navigate through the application process.”

Refreshments will be served. Space is limited. To reserve a spot, call 455-6011 or email gis@ccri.edu.
