COX Sports set to air live high school football

This fall, for the first time ever, Cox Sports will broadcast live high school football games on Ocean State Networks (OSN, Cox channel 5 and 1005) Friday nights this season. Live coverage of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) begins September 14 with Portsmouth vs. LaSalle Academy at 7 p.m.

The weekly program is titled Gamenight and will feature many of the hallmarks sports fans have come to expect from live sports coverage, including pre and post-game shows featuring highlights and analysis. Local sports announcers and radio personalities Scott Cordischi and Mike Wall will provide play-by-play and color commentary.

"We are extremely excited about the addition of live games to Cox Sports' already robust high school sports coverage," said John Wolfe, senior vice president and general manager, Cox New England. "There are great games featuring amazing athletes every week in this state, and it is a thrill to be able to share those live with fans, alumni, parents, and supporters of those schools."

The schedule for live broadcasts is as follows:

September 14: Portsmouth @ LaSalle Academy
September 21: Bishop Hendricken @ East Providence
September 28: Central Falls @ Cranston West
October 5: Chariho @ Warwick Veterans
October 12: Narragansett @ Smithfield

Beginning with the October 19 game, fans will be able to vote for which "Game of the Week" Cox Sports will air on OSN. Fans can vote on Cox's Facebook Page,
www.facebook.com/coxnewengland or by tweeting their pick to @coxnewengland with the hashtag #gamenight. The games will also stream live at coxsportsonline.com, allowing students, parents and fans to watch their favorite teams from anywhere a high-speed Internet connection is available.

"Although OSN is exclusive to Cox customers in Rhode Island, we wanted to give everyone in the state an opportunity to enjoy Friday night Gamenight," Wolfe said. "Cox Sports on OSN remains the exclusive home for other local favorites, such as Providence and URI basketball, the PawSox and other high school and NCAA coverage."

In addition to Gamenight, OSN also airs several Cox Sports shows devoted to high school sports. Varsity Life is a weekly program airing Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. featuring segments and interviews with Rhode Island's top high school and college athletes.

Gamenight is just one piece of Cox's robust 2012 football coverage from high school, to college, to the NFL. Cox customers enjoy football action in HD at no additional charge on networks such as ABC, CBS, ESPN, ESPN 2, FOX, NBC, NBC Sports Network. Plus, consumers can catch even more coverage on NFL Network On DEMAND and ESPN3.
