At the CVS Caremark Downtown 5K Awards Dinner held on Nov. 26 at CVS Caremark headquarters in Woonsocket, organizers and officials of the popular road race celebrated its 24th anniversary and the company’s 14th year as title sponsor of the race by handing out some early holiday gifts to area schools and charities. Grants were presented to nonprofit organizations supporting children and families and schools from Southern New England, bringing the total funds raised for charity since CVS Caremark became the title sponsor of the race to more than $1.4 million. More than 150 youths and adults, including track and field coaches, student runners, representatives from area nonprofit organizations and representatives from Tufts Health Plan – sponsor of the 3k High School Inspirational – gathered for the special celebration. Most of the schools and organizations that received grants provided volunteers to assist with tasks that helped make the 2013 CVS Caremark Downtown 5K a success. Others receiving grants were recognized for their athleticism.
