‘Cabaret’ national tour opens in Providence: Andrea Goss stars as Sally Bowles

Posted

Andrea Goss took time from her lunch break while rehearsing in New York City for the opening of the Roundabout Theatre Company production of “Cabaret,” which begins its National Tour at the Providence Performing Arts Center January 26-31.

Andrea was the understudy for the Broadway show and had the opportunity to play the lead role a number of times

“This is such a wonderful production,” she said. “We just finished blocking the show, and now we’re ‘putting the show up,’ so I can see all of the other actors’ works.”

They were in Providence on January 18 for a week of rehearsals on the PPAC stage.

“We’ve heard such great things about the theatre and the city. I can’t wait to get there. I also love to explore coffee shops. This will be my first opportunity to travel across the country, with the show booked well into 2017.”

I told her that we have more than Dunkin’ Donuts, along with great restaurants, another of the pleasures of touring troupes.

Goss grew up in Oregon and attended Syracuse University. In Syracuse, she starred in “The Sound of Music” and “Big River.” She went on to do more regional theatre before moving to New York City and landing roles on Broadway.

Her Broadway career includes roles in “Once,” “Rent” and “Cabaret.”

This new Tony Award winning production is under the watchful eyes of Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall, who Goss refers to as “geniuses.”

“My role is challenging, but it is a dream role,” Andrea said. “The music, sets and costumes are all spectacular.”

We’ve seen “Cabaret” a number of times, but Andrea assures me that this is a production I will never forget.

“Cabaret” is at the Providence Performing Arts Center January 26-30. For reservations call 421-ARTS.
