It was a successful weekend for the three Warwick public schools at the RIIL State Wrestling Championship as they placed seven wrestlers, including two who are on to New Englands.

The ’Canes saw Shawn Holland pin Cranston East’s James Roderick for third place in the 106, while Eric Watts took bronze in the 113. Both wrestlers will compete at New Englands next weekend, which will take place at the Providence Career and Technical Academy. A story on the two of them will appear in next week’s Beacon.

Pilgrim had the most individuals place of the three schools. Garrison Potter and Jacob Zuller each claimed fourth in the 132 and 160, respectively. John Castaldi placed sixth in the 113.

Toll Gate had two of its most impressive wrestlers all season end up on the podium. Hunter Stephenson placed sixth in the 106, while Jorden DaPonte earned the same distinction in the 120.
