Warwick Vets just missed out on a spot in the unified basketball championship as Woonsocket edged the ’Canes 39-37 in overtime of the semifinals on Thursday afternoon. The Novans led for most of the game before Vets tied it in the final seconds on a layup by Oliver Pinheiro to force overtime, In the extra frame, Woonsocket scored first before a shot in the lane from Rebecca Seamans tied it again. Woonsocket scored with 1:15 left, though, and stayed in front the rest of the way. Woonsocket went on to win the Division II championship on Saturday, while Vets celebrated a strong season.
