Posted

The Warwick Vets field hockey team ended up just two points shy of the playoff berth it was hoping for but still ended the season in impressive fashion with a 4-1 victory over cross-town rival Toll Gate on Wednesday night. Natasha Savage scored two goals, Samantha Harris tallied one and Savannah Hersey notched the other while dishing out two assists. Megan Lemay added an assist, and Naomi Franzen made four saves in the cage. Vets ran its record against city rivals to 3-0 and finished the season with a 4-6-3 record. The ’Canes also celebrated Senior Night, where they honored lone senior Allison Stopyra. For Toll Gate, the loss wasn’t without bright spots. Shanelle Lawson made 10 saves, including one on a penalty stroke, while Kelsey Holmes scored a goal with an assist from Taylor Spinard. Spinard had scored the team’s first goal of the season in Toll Gate’s previous game. Toll Gate finished 0-13. (Warwick Beacon photos by William Geoghegan)
