’Canes take eighth place at newly-named George Schmeider Memorial Tournament

Coventry took the championship at the 2014 George Schmeider Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Warwick Vets. The tournament was previously known as the Hurricane Invitational.

Warwick Vets finished eighth in the team standings and had six place-winners. Junior Davin Lourenco was the top performer with a first-place finish at 132. Owen Amirault took third at 152, Bobby Thomas took fourth at 138, Ronnie Laroque finished fifth at 182, Kendall Watts took sixth at 145 and Logan Amirault placed sixth at 126.

Coventry had a place-winner in every weight class on its way to the team title, with five first-place finishes. Stephen Brodeur won for the Oakers at 126, Devin Danis won at 138, Dylan Dupre took first at 170, Mike Rocchio won at 182 and Zach Higham finished first at 195.

Other winners were East Providence’s Christian Hussey at 106, Woonsocket’s Julian Jerez at 113, Hope’s Abel Arias at 120, South Kingstown’s Mason Duran at 145 and Chase Bivona at 152, East Providence’s Mario Peoples at 160, Barrington’s Quinn Morvillo at 220 and Noah Robey at 285.
