Carl H. Fliegner

Carl H. Fliegner, age 72, of Maryville, Tennessee, crossed over on February 4, 2013, at his home.

He was the son of the late Carl and Fay Fliegner of Providence, Rhode Island. Carl graduated from Classical High School in 1958, and had been honored by the Classical Varsity Club in 1957 for being the first Classical athlete to have received All-State honors in two different sports - track and football. He attended Boston College on a football scholarship, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He coached high school football and track for five years after college, both in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, followed by 12 years with Dupont's paint division. Carl then formed his own industrial maintenance painting, consulting and inspection company (CFA, Inc.) working for the major oil companies throughout the United States and retiring 18 years later.

He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Deborah York Fliegner, of Maryville, Tenn.; son, Christopher Fliegner of Maryville, daughter Allyson Fay Fliegner of Maryville, stepsons, Todd and Brian Graves of Charleston, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Olivia Fay, Ryan, Lyndsey and Jake; sister, Jane Blythe of Sarasota, Fla.; and nephew, Brian C. Viti, of Foster, R.I.
