Kylie Bowen, 7, took to the air Sunday during the St. Kevin Church Carnival. The even raised about $5,000, but says Father Robert Marciano, more than that it brought together the parish and instilled a “spirit of community.”
The weather was perfect, but more than that it was the sense of community and bringing the parish together that made the St. Kevin Church Carnival such a success, Father Robert Marciano said yesterday.
“It builds community spirit,” Father Marciano said of the carnival that raised about $5,000. An additional $10,000 was raised for the school playground that Father Marciano hopes to build with the raffle of a MG sports car donated by the estate of a deceased parish member. Holding the winning ticket was Marie Piskura, the mother of Tony Piskura who operates the Northeast Carnival. Tony bought the ticket for his mother in hopes of cheering her up. She could hardly believe she was the winner.
And in terms of bringing people together, Father Marciano invited all former pastors to visit the carnival Sunday for “padre’s night.”
