Causing a flap

Posted

John Brown Francis School had two special visitors last Thursday – one who everyone knew was coming and the other who was already there but was transformed. Storyteller Len Cabral visited to read to third-, fourth- and sixth-graders as part of Reading Week. And then there was Principal David Cluff. Cluff challenged third-graders to collect 500 canned goods for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank with the reward that he would dress up as a “character” if they exceeded the goal. When students collected more than 700 cans, school secretary Deborah Norman located two outfits from which to chose – a parrot and a marshmallow man. Cluff chose the fowl and, with Cabral’s help, squawked a song for the kids while causing quite a flap.
