Representing one of America’s most accomplished musical families, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet will celebrate the groundbreaking music of their legendary father, Dave Brubeck, during a special performance at the Park Theatre on Friday, Oct. 18.

Considered one of the foremost exponents of cool jazz, Dave Brubeck was a musical pioneer whose unique style ranged from refined to bombastic thanks to unparalleled improvisational skills, the use of unusual time signatures, and superimposing contrasting rhythms, meters and tonalities. In 1951, he organized the Dave Brubeck Quartet and began performing regularly at San Francisco’s Black Hawk nightclub and touring college campuses where he gained a loyal following and national popularity.

Prior to his passing in 2012, Brubeck continued performing through 2011, including an acclaimed performance at the famed Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City that further solidified his place in jazz history. The recipient of some of the country’s most notable recognition for musicians, Brubeck was presented with the Benjamin Franklin Award for Public Diplomacy by United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in 2008 for offering a vision of hope, opportunity and freedom through his music. In 2009, he received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors, which have redefined the way America recognizes its artists and their legacies. He was also presented with the Miles Davis Award in 2010.

Today, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet, featuring Dan Brubeck on drums, Chris Brubeck on bass and trombone, guitarist Mike DeMicco, and pianist Chuck Lamb, has become one of the country’s most exciting jazz groups. Celebrating the revolutionary music of Dave Brubeck, the quartet carries on his legacy while performing concert series at colleges and jazz festivals across North America and Europe. Their creativity, technique and improvisation reflect not only their dedication to the spontaneous spirit of jazz, but also honor the foundation of cool jazz established by their father.

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet will take the stage at 8 p.m. to perform the popular repertoire of their father. Tickets are $25 and $30 and available by calling the Box Office at 467-7275 or online at www.ParkTheatreRI.com.

Discounts are available for seniors and students. The Park Theatre is located at 848 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI 02910. Free parking is available for all shows.

Built in 1924, the Park Theatre served as a cultural landmark for nearly eight decades until its closing in 2002. Following seven years and $10 million in renovations, the Park was reborn as Rhode Island’s newest theatre and performing arts center. A fully-equipped, state of the art facility, the Park features concerts, comedy, theatrical performances, opera, dance recitals, children’s and family shows, and more. Through extensive renovations, the Park boasts a larger stage and 1,000 plush seats featuring significantly more legroom between rows than most theatres. The facility also houses the Stage Door Restaurant and Lounge, a pre-show destination that offers a unique environment for guests to enjoy dinners, appetizer offerings and cocktails. Free parking is available for all events. For more, visit www.ParkTheatreRI.com.
