Celebrating mentoring

Jan. 22 the RI Mentoring Partnership (RIMP) held its Public Service Announcement Premiere Event at Lemongrass Restaurant in Warwick. About 120 people attended the event, hosted by the restaurant. Mentoring programs that are members of the Partnership were recognized for their achievements in RIMP’s Quality Standards Mentoring (a process by which programs can reach benchmarks showing they are using accepted best practices for mentoring. The event was also an opportunity to celebrate two RI-based mentoring pairs who were chosen to be the subjects of the Public Service Announcements aired nationally for National Mentoring Month. Additionally, those in attendance saw for the first time a video with more detail about one of the pairs. The video features Elaine Belvin and Christina Markrush of the Warwick Mentor Program and will be used to introduce them to the crowd at the National Mentoring Summit in Washington, D.C. this week. Elaine and Christina have been together as a mentoring pair for almost two decades and now Christina also mentors. Because they are an excellent example of the power of mentoring, they will join Christina’s mentee, and RIMP’s president Jo-An Schofield to open the Summit.
