Magical Strings will bring their vibrant ringing and soulful sounds to their annual Spring Tour from Maine to Virginia this April and May. Their music, described by the Washington Post as “…sonically gorgeous,” will carry you to sublime realms with ancient airs and have you dancing to lively jigs and reels. Their unique compositions and stories will take you to Ireland and beyond.
They will perform Friday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Warwick Central Baptist Church in Apponaug.
Philip and Pam, who have been touring internationally for 36 years and have recorded over 20 albums, will be performing on their own hand-crafted Celtic harps and hammered dulcimers plus whistles, accordion and concertina.
Philip and Pam will be playing music inspired by their recent journey to Ireland last September, where they spent time on the Burren exploring ancient mystical sites, and traced the footsteps of the 17th Century Irish harper Turlough O’Carolan. Hear these pieces and more; Barbara’s Cottage, The Fairy Wind and Philip’s newest, The Hermit’s Cave at their performance, woven into their repertoire representing the traditional Bardic ‘Three Mystical Moods of Music’ from ancient Ireland.
Philip will be bringing one of his lap harps (available for sale) to the concert, and demonstrating its versatility. If someone is intrigued by the instrument or the music, Philip will be happy to schedule a lesson if possible during their tour.
