So as to address Rhode Island’s municipal challenges and to provide retirement security for employees and retirees and property tax relief to Rhode Islanders, Governor Lincoln Chafee will hold an electronic town hall for retirees and taxpayers today at 5:00 p.m.
Approximately 8,200 Rhode Islanders were invited by telephone to take part in the electronic town hall. All Rhode Islanders are also encouraged to share their questions, thoughts, and suggestions on municipal issues with the Governor – either by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or through a new feedback forum on the Governor’s website (www.governor.ri.gov), both of which will go live at noon on Thursday.
Governor Chafee talks about the need to confront the municipal pension crisis throughout his gubernatorial campaign, and since taking office has consistently stressed the need to help the state’s cities and towns better serve Rhode Islanders.
In recent weeks, the Governor has hosted Municipal Strategy Sessions for municipal executives, employee groups, and business leaders to discuss ways for the Chafee Administration to work with cities and towns to better serve Rhode Islanders and achieve fiscal stability.
