Charles H. “Bud” Selby

Charles H. “Bud” Selby, age 91, of Warwick, died on July 7, 2013 at Kent County Hospital. He was the husband of the late Dorothee E. “Dottie” (Parker) Selby. They were married for 70 years.

Born in Providence, the son of the late Charles F. and Inez A. (Riebe) Selby, he lived in Warwick for most of his life. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, and served in the Pacific on the escort carriers USS Long Island and USS Steamer Bay. He also served with the Rhode Island Air National Guard. Mr. Selby was the owner and operator of Selby Printing & Publishing in Warwick from 1966 to his retirement in 1984. Bud was a past State & National Counselor of the Sons & Daughters of Liberty; a past Noble Grand of the Oddfellows, Manchester Unity; a past Lieutenant Governor of the RI District of Kiwanis; and a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Warwick. He was a former coach for the Warwick American Little League, and a former softball and basketball coach for the Narragansett Chapter of DeMolay.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas D. Selby and his wife, Marion J. Selby of Warwick and Charles D. “Chuck” Selby and his wife, Barbara Wunderler of West Kingston, a daughter, Linda A. Kerrick of Richmond, Virginia; two sisters, Helen Hewins of Warwick and Shirley Leighton of Edgartown, Massachusetts; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was the brother of the late Dorothy King and Muriel Martland.

A committal service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, July 16, at 9:30 a.m. in the Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. (Please gather just inside the cemetery entrance.) A memorial service will follow on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Woodbury Union Church, Presbyterian, 58 Beach Avenue, Warwick. Visiting hours will be on Monday, July 15, from 5-8 p.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick.
