Charles J. McHugh, 79, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013. He was the devoted husband for 55 years of Mary K. (Flynn) McHugh.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Thomas P. and Emily (McHale) McHugh he resided in Warwick for 52 years. Mr. McHugh was employed as a telephone cable splicer and worked with New England Telephone for 35 years. A Korean War veteran, he served in the United States Army. He served as president of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a doorkeeper at the RI State House, House of Representatives, for 26 years and volunteered his time for many worthy charities.

He was the devoted father of Susan M. McCabe (John), Charles R. McHugh (Beth), Kevin J. McHugh (Margo), Shawn P. McHugh (Christine); brother of Ann Berardinelli, Mary Lou Clark, the late Walter McHugh, Thomas McHugh and Emily Saucier. He was the grandfather of Justin, Jarid, Daniel, Alaina, Jonathan, Shawn, Lindsay, Katelyn, Brandan, Ian, Collin, Ryan, Griffin: and great grandson, Jack.

His funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane. Burial with military honors in Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5 p.m.
