Charming family-friendly "Annie" at PPAC

We have seen over a half dozen “Annies” in our lifetime. Some good; some not so good.

So when the Providence Performing Arts Center brought the old chestnut back for one more time, and with a mostly new non-equity cast giving their first performances, we weren’t overly excited.

What a pleasant surprise we had in store for us!

Troika Entertainment’s production of the classical musical was just plain wonderful!

The charming, family-friendly show had it all: great sets, singing voices, actors, and the best Sandy I’ve ever seen.

Eleven year-old Heidi Gray made her National Tour debut Tuesday night, wowing the crowd with her crystal clear voice and winning us over with her emotional performance.

Gilgamish Taggett looked like you would expect Oliver Warbucks to look. And could he carry a tune!

Lynn Andrews really hammed it up as Miss Hannigan, along with Garrett Deagon as Rooster, leading a supporting cast that could run circles around most equity (Union) actors.

We were pleased to see so many families enjoying the fast-paced production.

While it is too late for a print review, I urge you catch “Annie” this weekend at PPac.
