Chart-topping super group Manhattan Transfer coming to Park Theatre
MANHATTAN TRANSFER

After celebrating their 40th anniversary with the highly-anticipated release of “The Chick Corea Songbook,” their first new record in five years, the world famous Manhattan Transfer is back to doing what they enjoy best: touring and performing to sold-out audiences. On Saturday, June 23, the platinum-selling group, widely recognized for broadening the musical landscape with their innovative sound, will play the historic Park Theatre in Cranston. Tickets are on sale now.

Long considered musical pioneers for broadening the horizons of music lovers and for introducing Bob Marley and The Wailers to American television audiences, Manhattan Transfer made Grammy history in 1981 by becoming the first group to simultaneously win a Grammy in both the jazz and pop categories. They are also responsible for putting out the second most honored album in pop history with “Vocalese,” earning 12 Grammy nominations, surpassed only by Michael Jackson’s Thriller at the time. To date, Manhattan Transfer has won 10 Grammys and has been nominated for 17. The group has also been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

“Manhattan Transfer is one of the most respected and honored vocal quartets in music history,” said Piyush Patel, owner of the Park Theatre. “They are an incredible addition to our current lineup of performances, and one that continues to demonstrate the level of high quality shows that the Park Theatre has to offer.”

The Manhattan Transfer is a major staple within both the jazz and mainstream music communities, bringing different genres of music to a wide audience and ever-increasing fan base. The group is Cheryl Bentyne, vocals; Tim Hauser, vocals; Alan Paul, vocals; and Janis Siegel, vocals. For more information visit www.manhattantransfer.net.

The performance of The Manhattan Transfer is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 23. Tickets are $35, $45 and $55 for VIP seating. For an additional $25 per person, patrons can add a pre-performance dinner package at the Stage Door Restaurant & Lounge, which is adjacent to the theatre. You may purchase tickets through the theatre’s secure website www.parktheatreri.com or by calling the Box Office at 467-7275. The Park Theatre is located at 848 Park Avenue, Cranston.

Built in 1924, the Park Theatre served as a cultural landmark for nearly eight decades until its closing in 2002. Following seven years and nearly $10 million in renovations, the Park Theatre has been reborn as Rhode Island’s newest theatre and performing arts center. As a fully-equipped, state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility, the Park Theatre features concerts, comedy, theatrical performances, opera, dance recitals, children’s and family shows and more. Through its extensive renovations, the Park Theatre boasts a larger, deeper stage and 1,000 plush seats that feature significantly more legroom between rows than most theatres. The facility also includes the Stage Door Restaurant and Lounge, a pre-show destination that offers a unique environment for guests to indulge in gourmet dinners, appetizer offerings and cocktails before a performance. Free parking is available for all events behind City Hall with professional valet service. For more information visit www.parktheatreri.com.
