Children’s 5K walk & run is Saturday

Posted

An estimated 1,000 Rhode Islanders are expected to gather Saturday at Roger Williams Park for the 13th Annual Children’s Friend 5K Walk and Run to help raise money for (and awareness of) programs for the state’s most vulnerable children and their families.

The Children’s Friend 5K Walk & Run, sponsored by Panera Bread, will benefit adoption, foster care, childcare, Dads Making a Difference, Head Start, Early Head Start, early intervention, family counseling and many other Children’s Friend programs. Last year, more than $80,000 was raised, despite rainy weather, to help underwrite the cost of programming and services provided to more than 31,000 people in Rhode Island.

The public is encouraged to support the Children’s Friend 5K Walk and Run by participating, by sponsoring the event, or by supporting an individual participant. To register or donate online, visit childrensfriendri.org. Those who are unable (or unavailable) to participate in the Children’s Friend 5K Walk and Run and wish to support the race can also mail a donation to Children’s Friend, 153 Summer Street, Providence, RI, 02903 (please mark “5K Donation” in the memo line). All contributions are tax-deductible.

Check-in and last minute registration for the event will be at the Temple to Music within Roger Williams Park at 8:30 a.m. on April 25. The walk and run will kick off promptly at 9:30 a.m. and a family fun festival will follow with refreshments from sponsor Panera Bread, arts and crafts, face painting and live performances for participants, supporters, and their families.
