The University of Rhode Island Music Department’s three top vocal ensembles will offer a “Choral Collage” combined concert on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. The URI Concert Choir and the vocal chamber ensemble Lively Experiment, both directed by Mark Conley, and the University Chorus, directed by Paulette LaParle, will perform a variety of choral works in the URI Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, 105 Upper College Road, Kingston.

Concert proceeds support URI music scholarships. Admission is $12 general, $7 students, with tickets available in advance via credit card through the Music Department website (new this year), or via cash or check at the box office on a first-come basis, starting 45 minutes before the concert.

The Concert Choir will perform works by composer Felix Mendelssohn’s sister Fanny Hensel, two opera choruses from an unfinished opera by Edvard Grieg, and also two pieces from Mozambique brought back by Mark Conley after his trip there. Lively Experiment will perform arrangements of Scottish folk songs arranged by Paul Crabtree, and possibly some vocal jazz works. The University Chorus, URI’s largest vocal ensemble with 72 voices from both university and community members, will perform “Temuna” and “Kala Kalla” from the Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre, Awakening by Martin, and True Light by Keith Hampton. The soloists for True Light are Marianna Albanes and Justin Kisch.

The URI Concert Hall is handicap-accessible, and parking is available in the lot behind the Fine Arts Center, off Bills Road. For more information, please contact the URI Department of Music, 874-5955, or check the website www.uri.edu/
