Church holds free laundry event in effort to bring in parishioners

In an effort to be more present within the community, Trinity Church hosted a free laundry event at Pilgrim Place Laundry on Wednesday.

Colleen Burg, a member of the vestry, said the event is a way for the church to not only give back but also a way to gain new parishioners.

“We are a strong church,” Burg said. “We aren’t a big parish, but everyone is very active and charitable.”

She said Trinity has no “boundaries” to who they want in their parish, and by offering to do others’ laundry, something we all must do, “from lawyers to college students and busy mothers, it is a way to bring in the majority of people.

For those too busy to get around to do their laundry or those can’t afford to, Trinity Church’s “gift of compassion” laundry event took care of washing and drying.

Mitch Lindeman, Trinity’s priest said, “This was just a way to add some good to the world. Even if you don’t see it, things like this always make a difference for someone. It’s important to sow that seed of good.”

The concept, Burg said, came up at a church retreat.

The church has budgeted $300 for the event, looking to parishioners to donate any quarters they may have to assist.

Trinity partnered with Lisa and Denis Blanchette at Pilgrim Place Laundry who were happy to help in anyway they could.

“Trinity does great work and we though this was a great cause,” Lisa said.

This is the first time Trinity held an event like this and Burg said she wants to “test the waters”.

As of deadline 10 people had already taken advantage of the laundry event.

“So far, people thin it’s a clever idea,” Burg said. “Everyone has been really appreciative of this help. It’s just a nice thing to do.”

Trinity is also hosting a pasta dinner and cabaret this Friday, November 20th,beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the church.
