The City of Warwick was among more than 70 Rhode Island organizations that were honored May 26 morning by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce for its ongoing efforts to promote employee health and wellness.

The city earned a “Superior” rating for its wellness activities, which include a written wellness plan and mission statement as well as having printed information available in the workplace. Blood pressure monitoring, time off for cancer screenings, CPR and first aid classes, nutrition coaching, smoking cessation, immunization clinics, stress management, an incentive program, and an annual employee wellness fair are among the many programs offered throughout the year.

“I am pleased that the city has once again been recognized for our ongoing work to give employees the programs, services and information they need to lead healthier lives and to take proactive steps to address any existing medical concerns,” Mayor Scott Avedisian said in a statement. “Our Wellness Committee, comprised of people from various municipal departments, meets regularly to determine what programs might be the most useful and effective for our employees. I thank them for their enthusiasm and commitment to promoting programs and for encouraging their colleagues to take part in wellness activities.”

There were 76 business that received awards. The rankings start from Exemplary, which is the highest award, followed by Superior, Outstanding and Achievement. Forty-three businesses earned the Exemplary rating, while there were 22 earning Superior, 10 outstanding and one Achievement award was given. The City of Warwick, Department of Tourism, Culture & Development is the full name of the recipient of the award. This is the second year in a row that the City of Warwick has won the Superior award.
