The Cranston Department of Senior Services welcomed hundreds of competitors from across New England, along with their families and friends, to the 2014 Senior Games presented by CVS/pharmacy.
The 19th annual games welcomed participants age 55 and older, and included various Olympic-style events such as archery, cycling, swimming, track and field, bowling, bocce, 3-on-3 basketball, horseshoes, billiards, mind games, an obstacle course, a basketball throw, a baseball throw and golf.
The top performers won gold, silver and bronze medals in their events, which were presented Tuesday at a banquet.
Saturday could not have been more perfect for outdoor sports, as seniors took to the field right after opening ceremonies and the lighting of the torch by torchbearer Robert Tetrault and torch lighter Doris Sword.
Accompanying the opening ceremonies was a performance by the Cranston West High School Band. The stands were full of athletes, their families and friends and members of the public who showed up to cheer on the senior athletes.
Due the hot weather, water was distributed throughout the day to keep the athletes hydrated as the performed their sport or sports.
