In observance of the Civil War sesquicentennial, Rhode Island's involvement in the Civil War at the battlefront and the homefront will be commemorated on Saturday, March 10 at the Varnum Armory on Main Street in East Greenwich.
There will be a luncheon during which the Providence Brigade Band will play Civil War period music followed by a memorial ceremony for all Rhode Islanders who served in the war. Members of Batteries B and C, 1st RI Light Artillery, RIM will participate in full Civil War uniform. The Hon. Frank Williams, noted Lincoln scholar and Civil War historian will be the guest speaker. There will be a raffle of reproductions of Civil War weapons and related items and a tour of the armory's Civil War collection.
This event is being sponsored by the RI Commandery, Military Order of Foreign Wars. Reservations are a must for anyone interested.
