Preservation Society Civil War Expo will be held May 4 and 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this two-day event at the Bridgeton School, 16 Laurel Hill Avenue, Pascoag, there will be a Civil War encampment. The expo gets off to a bang with a cannon firing demonstration Saturday at 10 a.m. At several times each day there will be cannon firing and artillery drills. On Saturday at 1 p.m. there will be a special Civil War Band performance by the Providence Brigade.  

There will be displays and information about Burrillville soldiers who served during the Civil War, including a recipient of the Medal of Honor. There will be cemetery tours to the graves of some of these soldiers. Also planned is a Civil War book sale with a large selection of books about every aspect of the war: Battles, generals, map books, biographies and general histories. There is also a collection of World War II books for sale. 

Two Civil War authors will make presentations. On Saturday, at 3 p.m. Mark Dunkelman will talk about his book titled, “Gettysburg’s Unknown Soldier: The Life, Death, and Celebrity of Amos Humiston.” On Sunday, at 1 p.m., Les Rolston of Warwick will give a talk about immigrant soldiers who received the Medal of Honor during the Civil War. His book is titled “Home of the Brave.” 

At 2 p.m. on both days, re-enactor John Currier of Warwick will portray General George S. Greene, who fought at Gettysburg.

There will be a continuous showing of the film “Glocester’s Boys in Blue” (from “West of the Seven Mile Line - A History of Glocester”), narrated by Civil War author and historian Robert Grandchamp. For information, call 568-8449 or visit www.bhps.org.
