The newest inductees into the Cranston Hall of Fame were announced recently, and will be officially inducted at a dinner and ceremony next week.

The annual induction ceremony and dinner banquet will occur on Friday, Oct. 18 at the West Valley Inn in West Warwick beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour; dinner and the ceremony begins promptly at 7:30. The evening’s festivities are open to friends and family of the inductees, as well as the general public. Tickets are $35 per person.

Established in 1980, the Cranston Hall of Fame Foundation recognizes graduates of the Cranston public school system who have distinguished themselves on the local, state, regional or national stage, and have made outstanding contributions in their fields.

Selected by the Foundation’s Permanent Selection Committee, the Class of 2013 inductees have found success in the fields of law, music education and performance, public policy and advocacy, business and youth sports, and community service.

The Honorable Angelo I. Castelli has had a 48-year career in the legal field, serving as an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service and United States Department of Justice, and as a judge to the Prince George’s County Orphan Court. A member of the Cranston High School Class of 1951, the former Marine now lives in Easton, Md., with his wife where he works at a private practice as a lawyer.

Program Supervisor of Music Education for the Cranston School District, Mark E. Colozzi is being inducted into the Hall of Fame in recognition of his dedication to all aspects of music education and teaching excellence in general. A graduate of Cranston High School East in 1976, Colozzi has served a number of positions throughout the state in the field of music, both educating young people and performing himself. Colozzi also holds a Rhode Island State Lifetime Teaching Certificate.

Cranston High School West Class of 1984 member, Senator Beatrice A. Lanzi is also being inducted in recognition of her leadership, expertise and role as a member of the General Assembly. Lanzi has served in the General Assembly for 20 years (the first 10 as a representative), served on a number of committees, and is the current chair of the Advisory Council on the New Agenda.

Dr. John M. Nystrom, Cranston East Class of 1963, is a distinguished researcher in the Biopharmaceutical industry. The Framingham, Mass. resident is a highly respected professional, both nationally and internationally, for his work developing, managing and implementing the process technology of fine chemicals.

A highly respected coach, educator and administrator in the community, John Pagano of the Cranston High Class of 1950 is the final member of this year’s induction class. He served for 33 years as an educator and coach in the Warwick School District, and has been an official of school sports in Rhode Island and Massachusetts for 45 years.

“The Cranston Hall of Fame dinner and induction is a highlight of the Cranston social season, an evening that brings many families and old friends together for a memorable experience, one you do not want to miss,” said Foundation president Frederick J. Vincent.
