Potowomut School felt the bite of the wrecker’s jaws last week as crews razed the former elementary school to make room for a two-bay fire station that will include a community meeting room and facilities for a community police officer. Apparatus, from one of two engine companies now stationed next to Aldrich, and personnel will be relocated to the station thereby enabling the city to save the $350,000 it pays for East Greenwich to cover Potowomut. Chief Edmund Armstrong aims to have the new station operational by this time next year. A $2 million bond issue approved by voters in 2006 is funding the project.
