Clothing the homeless

Independence Financial Partners, a John Hancock Financial Network firm, collected hundreds of donations of new men’s socks, gloves, hats, gift cards and toiletries for those currently experiencing homelessness in Rhode Island. The donation was recently delivered to the House of Hope CDC (Community Development Corporation) for those staying at the Harrington Hall Shelter. Harrington Hall, located in Cranston, is the state’s largest emergency shelter, providing year-round shelter for 80 to 100 homeless men each night. “We are concerned about the impact the lagging economy has had on our community,” said Richard P. Beaulieu, CLU, ChFC, co-managing partner of Independence Financial Partners. “We’re happy to help the House of Hope CDC, and particularly the men at Harrington Hall.” The donations come at a good time as the state’s homeless shelter system is overwhelmed with a growing need from those seeking shelter this winter. “We appreciate Independence Financial Partners stepping up to the plate and helping out,” said Jean Johnson, executive director of the House of Hope CDC. “In times like now, when our need is so great, we rely on the generous donations from our community. These simple acts of kindness make a huge difference in the lives of our clients.”
