Coastway recognized as Outstanding Philanthropic Business of year

Coastway Community Bank has been selected as the Outstanding Philanthropic Business of the year (less than 250 employees) by the RI Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Coastway president and CEO Bill White accepted the award on behalf of the company at the AFP RI’s annual National Philanthropy Day celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

“The RI Mentoring Partnership nominated Coastway for this award because of the tireless time and effort so many of the bank’s employees invest in mentoring children,” said Jo-Ann Schofield, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership.  “We are extremely pleased that they are being recognized for the innovative way they’ve made giving back to the community through mentoring a part of the culture of their business.” Dozens of Coastway employees spend thousands of paid work hours in the community helping children each year.

Coastway Community Bank has also helped sponsor many of RIMP’s most important events and has taken on the enormous role of organizing the silent auction at RIMP’s premier annual fundraiser, Dancing with the Stars of Mentoring.

“That effort alone,” says Schofield, “takes the responsibility of hundreds of employee-hours of work off our small, hardworking staff, and allows them to focus on the other key pieces of the event. Without Coastway’s help, Dancing with the Stars of Mentoring would not be the success it has become. The RI Mentoring Partnership and numerous other RI non-profits are so much better off because of Coastway’s efforts in our community.”
