Cocktails & cupcakes in memory of Mary Sayles, to fight cancer

This Saturday, Silver Spoon Bakery & Cafe will host a fundraiser with all proceeds donated to the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk and the Ovarian Cancer Brigade.

Guests will enjoy cocktails, cupcakes and other sweets, and live entertainment. In addition to a 50/50 raffle, other raffle items have been donated by The Grille on Main, Rok Bar, Centro Martini, The Green Door, The Radisson Hotel, Caserta’s Pizza, Shotokan Karate Studio, Harbor Lights Marina & Country Club, Mozzarella’s, Captain’s Catch and more.

Warwick resident Karen Bristow completed the 26.2-mile walk last September in honor of her dear friend Mary Sayles. Sayles, a longtime Warwick resident and former employee of Mayor Scott Avedisian, died on June 28, 2011 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

“Mary and I were friends since 1985 and I witnessed the devastating effects of ovarian cancer, the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among women,” said Bristow.

“After completing the 26.2 miles in her honor last year, I decided I wanted to do something more to benefit those fighting their battle with cancer. I couldn’t be more excited to host a fundraiser to benefit the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund and especially the Ovarian Cancer Brigade.”

The event starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 at Silver Spoon Bakery & Cafe at 58 Main Street, East Greenwich.
