Committee selected in search for CCRI president

In response to Ray DiPasquale announcement he would not seek to renew his contract as president of CCRI, Governor Gina Raimondo and Council on Postsecondary Education Chair Bill Foulkes have created a search committee to seek and review candidates for the post.

Currently, applications for the position are being accepted through July 24. Di Pasquale, whose contact expires in June 2016, has offered to stay as long as necessary to provide for a smooth transition.

The position of president reports to the Rhode Island Council on Postsecondary Education and serves as the chief executive officer for the community college, which services more than 17,500 students with more than 1,000 faculty and staff.

Raimondo stressed the importance of CCRI as a “workforce development engine” for the state and the need for a strong leader to take on that charge to “create growth opportunities not only for students but also for Rhode Island’s economy.”

“The president of CCRI plays a leading role in ensuring that Rhode Island students can access the educational resources they need to achieve their academic and career-readiness goals,” Jim Purcell, Commissioner of Postsecondary Education, said in a press release.

All three thanked DiPasquale for his time at CCRI.

The search committee is made up of nearly 15 participants from a wide array of backgrounds.

Foulkes said in a statement, “With this search committee, we have brought together a diverse group of individuals representing faculty, alumni, the business community, and the postsecondary education council.”

Besides Foulkes and Purcell, the committee consists of Michael Bernstein, who serves as a board member of the Rhode Island Student Assistance Program; Lisa Bisaccia, executive vice president and chief human resources for CVS Health and sits on the Rhode Island Career and Technical Education board of Trustees; Robert Delaney, executive director of the Institute for Labor Studies and Research as well as a board member of the Rhode Island Student Loan Authority.

Also, Doris De Los Santos, Executive Director of Partnership, Development and Community Engagement for the Providence School Department, sits on the committee alongside Scott Jensen, Director of the Department of Labor and Training, Pamelee Murphy, has served as a lawyer for the State of Rhode island CCRI as well as other public and private clients; Judy Ouellette, member of the Postsecondary Council of the Rhode Island Board of Education and an independent educational consultant and Shawn Parker an Assistant Professor of Art and the Gallery Director for the CCRI Art Gallery.

Also on the committee are Sandra Pattie President and Chief Executive Officer of BankNewport and OceanPoint Financial Partners, and a member of the Providence College President’s Council; Sharon Perkins, Chair of the Allied Health Department and Program Director for Radiography Studies at CCRI; Cheryl Snead, President and Chief Executive Officer of Banneker Industries, Inc., a Director of Amica Mutual Insurance Company, Bancorp Rhode Island, Inc. and Reverend Jeffery Williams, a member of the Postsecondary Council of the Rhode Island Board of Education, founder of the King’s Cathedral.
