Community services wins Pasquarelli scholarship

Academic success and continued community service do not go without reward, especially for a senior at Pilgrim High School. Through the Rhode Island Red Sox Service Scholarship Foundation, Rebecca Pasquarelli has received a $1,000 scholarship.

For the last two years, Pasquarelli has been taking part in 100 hours of community service. Over the summer, she raised over $600 through bake sales for the West Warwick Angel’s Caring for Animals organization. Next year she will be attending the University of Rhode Island as a chemical engineering major. While there, she wants to continue to give back to the community through the creation of a club encouraging young girls to get involved in STEM and interested in careers in STEM fields.

Pasquarelli was one of 30 Rhode Island seniors chosen to receive the scholarship that 90 students applied for. The scholarship is sponsored by National Grid, as part of their new community relations initiative with the Red Sox Foundation.

At Fenway Park on May 2, the 30 scholarship recipients will be honored during pre-game ceremonies.
