With a rainy start Tuesday, there was concern that the 32nd edition of National Night Out at the Oakland Beach Commons would be canceled. But that didn’t happen, as the event sponsored by the city, fire and police departments, Target and a number of organizations brought together a crowd for an evening of events and food culminating with fireworks. Area residents said this year’s National Night Out was well managed and overall quieter than prior years. Warwick Police and Police Cadets coordinated parking and directed traffic. Among activities and events featured were a K9 unit demonstration, a rock wall, a Nintendo display, Rhode Island State Police Touch-A-Truck, Armed Forces Football Toss, face painting and fingerprinting, the Fire Department Smoke House, a Jaws of Life demonstration, a karate demonstration, the Don’t Text/Don’t Drink and Drive Crash Vehicle, a rollover vehicle, Officer Friendly and McGruff the Crime Dog, a live DJ and prizes.
