Container Store to open R.I. outlet at Garden City

A pen and paper are great tools when it comes to organizing your time or your finances, but when it comes to almost anything else, organization options abound. Soon, Rhode Islanders will be able to experience thousands of organization ideas in one place as The Container Store opens its first Ocean State location at Garden City Center.

To be located in the former Linens ’n Things building, The Container Store, which is expected to open in the spring of 2014, will feature more than 10,000 innovative products to help consumers save space, and ultimately save time. The 26,500-square-foot store will be divided into lifestyle sections marked with brightly colored banners such as Closet, Kitchen, Office and Laundry.

“We are thrilled to have The Container Store join the center to offer a shopping option that can’t be found anywhere else in Rhode Island,” said Deb DiMeo, vice president of leasing for The Wilder Companies, the management company of Garden City Center in a statement.

“Garden City Center continues to be a catalyst of the retail economic boom that Cranston has enjoyed during these difficult financial times. Our city has become a destination for retailers coming to Rhode Island for the first time, like The Container Store and Sleep Number who have decided that Cranston is the right place for them,” said Cranston Mayor Allan Fung.

Meanwhile, Rhode Islanders now have another option to count their way to sleep at night without having to worry about sheep. In another first for Rhode Island, on Oct. 25, Sleep Number opened a new 2,600-square-foot store at Garden City Center next to Soma Intimates. The company is the exclusive manufacturer, marketer, retailer and servicer of the revolutionary Sleep Number bed, which allows individuals to adjust the firmness and support of each side at the touch of a button.

Also this fall, J. Crew, Corner Bakery Café and LA Fitness are all expected to open stores as Phase II of the transformation of the shopping center continues. The Container Store and Sleep Number join Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, lululemon athletica, as well as LA Fitness and Corner Bakery Café as retailers with their only Rhode Island stores located at Garden City Center.
