A correctional officer at the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston has been arrested and accused of using excessive force on a prisoner, according to state police.
According to a Dec. 13 announcement from State Police Col. Steven G. O’Donnell and ACI Director A.T. Wall, Jonathan Addison, 44, of 365 Simmonsville Ave. in Johnston has been charged with simple assault.
Addison was arrested at his home on Dec. 11, according to the news release. He was arraigned at Third Divison District Court before Judge William C. Clifton and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
The incident that led to the charge occurred at approximately 8 a.m. on July 15 of this year, the news release states. The investigation was conducted by members of the State Police ACI Investigations Unit in conjunction with the Department of Corrections Special Investigations Unit.
