It was incorrectly reported in the May 5 Beacon that duckpin bowling champion John Zikis of East Haven, Conn., had bowled a high of 279 out of a perfect score of 300. Zikis’ top bowling score is 246. No one has bowled a perfect score and the closest anyone has come to that is 279. Zikis was in Warwick for the opening of the 86th National Duckpin Bowling Congress Tournament at Meadowbrook Lanes. He keeps bowling with the dream of that perfect score.
Upon further review, contrary to what was reported in the May 3 edition on the City Council’s resolution calling for an investigation of School Department Special Education Services, the department faces one open due process hearing that dates back to a February 2015 complaint. The ruling of the hearing officer, which favored the city, was appealed to federal court. This March the court remanded the complaint to the state for a due process hearing according to Jennifer Connolly, Warwick director of special education.
