Corvette Club starts summer with food drive

Posted

Fourteen Corvettes lined the parking lot at 110 Jefferson Blvd. Wednesday morning as the Corvette Club of Rhode Island hosted their kickoff event for their summer-long food drive.

The Corvette Club, which currently has more than 200 members, was founded 50 years ago and is dedicated to charity work. This year their focus is on the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. As such, they will be hosting food drives throughout the summer.

The kick-off networking event asked for a canned good donation for admission, but Liliana Dolan, publicity director for the club, said people were bringing boxes full of canned goods and other non-perishable goods. The club’s goal is to reach 2,000 pounds worth of goods. Dolan explained that already the club is close to 1,000 pounds.

The food drive will end on Aug. 9 with the club’s 45th car show, Corvettes by the Sea, at Marina Park in South Kingstown. The club will then pack their corvettes full with the donated goods and drive to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to make the donation.

If you would like to donate food for the drive you can drop donations off at Express Employment at 110 Jefferson Blvd.

You can also email Liliana Dolan to set up a pick of goods at Liliana.Dolan@ExpressPros.com.
