Counting blessings

To the Editor:

This holiday season may be a good time to appreciate all the benefits we incur by living in this great country of ours.  Hopefully we do not take for granted our armed forces, public safety officers in law enforcement and fire service, and our medical care personnel who make our daily lives more protected and secure from most harmful events. Also, all the men and women in public service who daily fulfill many of our needs:  education, postal service, highway, water, libraries, natural resources, sanitation, transportation, and other services that make our lives richer for their efforts. Together they all make living in the U.S. truly worthwhile and we should show our gratitude and appreciation whenever possible.

Many will join with family and friends in observance of the joys of the season. There are also those who are experiencing the loss of loved ones, financial need, mental and physical pain, yet they too will make an effort to observe the holiday traditions. Try to remember them and reach out if needed.

This may be a good time to review all the blessings we have been given and share your good will from your substance with others in need now and in the months ahead, not just in this present time of joy and giving.
