Coutu Bros Moving & Storage, a local and long-distance moving company based in Warwick, has introduced online ordering.

The service, inaugurated in mid-November, allows customers to choose their moving date and time at any time, any place, from their homes, offices or mobile devices.

The company’s website, coutumovers.com, already contains a comprehensive pricing list, so customers can feel confident that once they have ordered, their move, its date and its cost are set. Nonetheless, customers receive both an immediate email confirmation and a telephone call from the company within 24 hours.

Bob Romano, Coutu president, says he knows of no other moving company that offers such a feature.

Some companies offer a free online estimate of moving costs, and some enable customers to use a “moving calculator” to estimate their price, but the Coutu feature enables customers to rest assured that their move is scheduled when they choose.

“That’s the whole idea, simplify it for the customers,” Romano said.

Coutu Bros Moving & Storage is located at 2 Greco Lane, Warwick. The company has been serving Rhode Island since it was founded in 1940 by the Coutu brothers. Romano bought the company in 2000 and has greatly expanded its services since that time.

The company has grown from one to four trucks and has expanded its service area beyond Rhode Island. Last year, Coutu opened an 8,000-square-foot storage facility and expanded its services to include moves on the entire East Coast.

The storage facility offers fire and smoke alarms, motion detectors, 24-hour video surveillance and climate control and is 80 percent full, according to Romano.

Coutu is believed to be the only independent moving company in Rhode Island to offer storage. Coutu Bros is not a franchise or an agent for any national moving company.

Coutu Bros serves both residential and commercial customers and specializes in short-notice moves. Romano says the company can move a customer the day the customer places an order, based on availability.

The company is licensed by the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission and is a member of the American Moving & Storage Association, the Massachusetts Movers Association, the Rhode Island Trucking Association, the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau.
