Cox and Briarcliffe plan ‘Ladies Day Out’
The Briarcliff Manor’s third annual Ladies Day Out, which was sponsored by Cox Communications, was a thrill for residents Brenda Tillinghast and Emma London.

Ladies Day Out 2012 will be remembered as a “fantastic and awesome time,” according to Mary McGarry.

McGarry is an account representative with Cox Communications who helped make Sunday’s event a success for the third time in as many years. Each year, Cox teams up with Briarcliffe Manor for the annual Ladies Day Out.

“The ladies look forward to the day every year,” said Ronald “Ron” Bernier. “They especially like being fussed over ... getting all dolled up and going out for dinner.”

The Ladies Day Out, which this year was held at Davenport’s Restaurant in East Providence, was no ordinary trek to a restaurant.

“They go by limousine,” Bernier said. “This year, I ordered the limo from Starlight Limousine of East Providence. It’s something the ladies really look forward to; it makes the day that much more special.”

Among the women who participated in the event, and sipped on champagne in the limousine, was Betty Bolton.

“She’s awesome,” Bernier said. “She’s truly an amazing lady and you’d never know she’s 101 years old.”

Bernier and Briarcliff Manor’s Assistant Activities Director Patricia Odette, as well as Director of Admissions Michelle Ocampo, coordinate Ladies Day Out. Cox Communications picks up the tab for dinner and the limousine.

Once a list of residents who are able to participate in the Ladies Day Out is set, Bernier’s wife Nancy makes up personalized invitations and gets them to each resident.

“We try to make it as special as possible for those ladies who are going,” Bernier said. “We also take pictures of the day and put together a memorable video.”

That, again, is where Nancy Bernier comes in.

“Once we have all the pictures, my wife downloads them onto her computer and puts the entire day to music,” Ron said. “Then we show it to the residents so that they’ll have good memories of the day.”

This year’s Ladies Day Out participants were Anna Collins, Belmira Santos, Rose Gulotta, Brenda Tillinghast, Ann Bjorsbik, Mary Paliotta, Emma London and Betty Bolton.
