Cranston man charged following weekend CVS robbery

A Cranston man has been caught and is being held without bail following a robbery at a CVS store and an attempted robbery at another CVS location in Warwick on Sunday.

According to police, Michael Graham, 47, attempted to rob the CVS store located at 2790 Post Road, in the Greenwood neighborhood, Sunday morning but left with nothing. Graham was reported to have a knife at the time. According to sources, he told the cashier to give him the money or else he would cut her throat.

Shortly after that incident, police received a call about a second robbery in progress at the CVS at 767 Warwick Avenue. Scissors that were taken from inside the store were used in the second robbery, in which Graham escaped with an undetermined amount of money, said Warwick Detective Captain Christopher Stewart.

Although Graham escaped before police arrived, they were able to track him to the Motel 6 located at 20 Jefferson Boulevard because Graham had taken a taxi there, Stewart said. Graham was taken into custody without incident and transported to Warwick Police headquarters.

While at the station, Stewart said Graham became unruly in the cell. He was later transported to Kent Hospital after requesting medical treatment for a matter unrelated to the robbery.

Graham was arraigned Monday at District Court and ordered held without bail on one count of first degree robbery and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon.
